REMOTE BACKUP
Remote backup services allow you to send your data to a secure off-site location.  A variety of encryption methods are used to provide a secure connection to the backup service.  The data is transferred using your existing Internet connection.  Backup services usually provide additional services like versioning and archiving.  Versioning keeps incremental changes to each file for a certain time frame(30 days).  If you choose to archive your data, the service provides copies of your data at specific intervals.

The data is automatically transmitted based upon a pre-determined schedule to more than one locations.  Seven different encryption technologies are utilized in addition to the latest firewall applications to protect the data.

Remote backup eliminates daily maintenance of tape backups, including transporting, storage, tape labeling, and indexing.  There is also the added efficiency of IT personnel.  There is redundancy in the storage of the data with 24/7 access to lost or deleted files.  There is also the elimination of human error and media failure.  Lastly, remote backup reduces the organization’s telecommunication expenses.

WHAT IS NETWORK SECURITY?
Network security includes:
  • Policy creation and compliancy
  • Anti-Virus protection and SPAM blocking
  • Managed Firewall System (including proactive system monitoring)
  • Intrusion Detection Systems (host and/or network based)
  • Content Filtering
As computer and network technologies have grown more sophisticated in recent years, and especially since the maturation of the Internet, one needs to take a closer look at one’s network security measures.  With over 80% of today’s computer systems being connected to the ‘Net in some way, we can no longer rely on a simple Anti-Virus program to keep us safe.  So what is needed to ensure your optimal level of security in today’s computer powered times?

We all take Anti-Virus programs for granted these days, and an updated A-V package is a must. Going beyond Anti-Virus, a properly configured Firewall is a great place to start your enhanced security efforts and a managed Firewall is even better.  Using a management service to watch over your various security systems can provide additional analysis and reporting on those that use your systems and those that may attempt to access your systems.  Intrusion Detection Systems are another excellent tool to examine the traffic passing across your network.  These systems also are able to identify employee intrusion into unauthorized date areas.  Content filtering prevents employees from accessing inappropriate websites, a situation that could lead to sexual harassment, a violation of federal law.

The bottom line is this:  proper Network Security is about knowing WHO is trying to do WHAT on your network.  You need the tools in place to gather this information, and the knowledge to know how to use this information to your benefit.  Your best place to start in designing a secure network infrastructure today is to enlist the help of a qualified Network Security Consultant.
